A Look Back – IPACA Game Jam

Back in September 2015, CDE Research Engineer Phil Wilkinson took the lead in a game jam for a group of IPACA (Isle of Portland Aldridge Community Academy) students.

Over 2 days a group of IPACA students were taken to Bournemouth University and challenged to create a digital game about the internet. With support from IPACA Researcher Phil Wilkinson and Bournemouth University Professor Ian Stephenson, they programmed the game from scratch and designed and created all of their game art.

The game jam forms part of Phil's on-going Doctorate Research looking at game production as educational and pedagogic practice. To create the games, IPACA students used ‘Sniff’, a programming language developed by Ian for budding coders. Click here for more detailed information of the work the students completed, the Sniff programming language and to play their games.
