CDE EngD student Alex Rotsidis has had his Master's thesis accepted in IUI-ATEC 2019 workshop, being held in conjunction with the 24th International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces, March 2019 in Los Angeles.

Alex who is currently on industrial placement with DCactiv completed the paper as part of his Masters year at the start of his EngD at University of Bath.

Alex's paper is titled “Augmented Reality: Making sense of robots through real-time transparency display”.

Halfway to the Future symposium
19th and 20th November 2019 in Nottingham, UK

 

The Mixed Reality Lab at the University of Nottingham are running the Halfway to the Future symposium, which is a two-day event in the city of Nottingham, UK. The symposium will explore the past, present, and future of HCI and design-based research and address a range of key themes with dedicated single-track panels, anchored by prominent keynote speakers discussing one of their seminal works in light of subsequent developments.

Confirmed keynote speakers: Steve Benford, Susanne Bødker, Bill Gaver, Christian Heath, Yvonne Rogers, Lucy Suchman, and Alex Taylor.

Computer Graphics International ­is one of the oldest international annual conferences in Computer Graphics and one of the most important ones worldwide, founded by the Computer Graphics Society (CGS). It is a yearly meeting where academics present their latest algorithms, and explore new ideas on various computer graphics topics. Since 1983 it was held in different countries in Europe, Asia, Australia and North & South America. CGI 2019, the 36th annual conference will take place on June 17th – June 20th in Calgary, Alberta, Canada at the foothills of majestic Canadian Rockies. CGI 2019 is organized in cooperation with ACM SIGGRAPH and EUROGRAPHICS.

3rd INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL ON DEEP LEARNING
 
DeepLearn 2019, Warsaw, Poland, July 22-26, 2019

DeepLearn 2019 will be a research training event with a global scope aiming at updating participants about the most recent advances in the critical and fast developing area of deep learning. This is a branch of artificial intelligence covering a spectrum of current exciting machine learning research and industrial innovation that provides more efficient algorithms to deal with large-scale data in neurosciences, computer vision, speech recognition, language processing, human-computer interaction, drug discovery, biomedical informatics, healthcare, recommender systems, learning theory, robotics, games, etc. Renowned academics and industry pioneers will lecture and share their views with the audience.
 
Most deep learning subareas will be displayed, and main challenges identified through 2 keynote lectures, 24 four-hour and a half courses, and 1 round table, which will tackle the most active and promising topics. The organizers are convinced that outstanding speakers will attract the brightest and most motivated students. Interaction will be a main component of the event.
 
An open session will give participants the opportunity to present their own work in progress in 5 minutes. Moreover, there will be two special sessions with industrial and recruitment profiles.
