Intelligence for Human-Robot Interaction based on Mechanical Design
Robot is an integrated system of wide fields of basic technologies including Mechanisms, Materials, Actuators, Sensors, Computers, Control, and Intelligence. In designing intelligent robots, there are two conventional approaches. One is focused on computational intelligence, the other is focused on special mechanical design. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages. Computational intelligence realizes universal adaptability, and Special mechanical design realizes ideal specifications and low cost. Both approaches should be merged together to establish an intelligent robot development methodology. I propose an approach of mechanical intelligence that introduces both innovative mechanisms and learning functions into robots. In my presentation, I explain a basic concept and several examples of mechanical intelligence.
