BCCS 19

The 4th Bath Conference in Computer Science (BCCS) 2019 took place at the University of Bath on 31st May 2019. CDE were thrilled that the program included talks from CDE Research Engineers Catherine Taylor, Paddy Boulton, Alex Rotsidis and Thomas Matthews. CDE Research Engineers also featured strongly in the prize giving with Thomas Williams winning Joint Best Poster and Paddy Boulton, Best Presentation.

CDE rounded off the day with a drinks reception for attendees of the conference and some of our industry partners.

Special congratulations to Catherine Taylor for doing such a good job on the organising committee.

Digital Economy Summer School 2019 – the Interdisciplinary Digital Culture and Society Conference (DISCo 2019), will take place from Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 July 2019 at the University of Nottingham’s De Vere Jubilee Conference Centre on the Jubilee Campus, located within 2 miles of Nottingham City Centre.

The Summer School DISCo Conference will start at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 9 July and finish at 1.00 pm on Friday 12 July.

Workshops:

There will be a choice of four half-day workshops on the afternoon of Wednesday 10 July and a choice of four full-day workshops on Thursday 11 July. Delegates can attend one on each day and will need to specify both their preferred half and full-day workshops when registering.

Prices:

£340 for full conference attendance including accommodation for 3 nights (9,10 and 11 July)

£195 for full conference attendance – WITHOUT accommodation (for PhD/CDT students already living in the Nottingham/local area)

£65.00 for one-day conference attendance (also includes the evening meal for that day if preferred)

Designability Dragon Race 2019

The 3rd Annual Dragon Boat race returns to Bath on 8th September 2019 supporting CDE Partner Designability. The CDE is putting together a Dragon Boat Race team to support the work Designability are doing and as a great chance to get together to have some fun.

We still have 5 places to fill in the team, and you don’t have to be able to row. Who’s up for it?

‘Urban Hacking in 5G’ will take place at the University of Bristol on 17-20th June 2019. This is a 4-day event involving learning, urban gaming, hands-on development, demos and prize giving. More information on the full programme and registration can be found here.

Science Museum Live Science: Featuring Ifigeneia Mavridou

CDE Research Engineer Ifigeneia Mavridou assisted in running ‘Live Science: Can Virtual Reality Reveal a Hidden Skill?’ between 7th May to 16th June 2019. Conducting research using virtual reality scenarios that will test your skills and uncover hidden soft-skill abilities. Visit the ‘Who am I’ space to check it out. Video footage will be available shortly so keep an eye on the CDE Website.
